Principal's Message: Week of September 23, 2018
25th Week Ordinary Time

[Hidden image]

Dear St. Luke Families,

Why does the gospel get so much attention at Mass? Why do we hold the book up and parade it to the pulpit? I think it might have something to do with it being a story. I am struck by the narrative about Jesus, more than I am by the sometimes complicated theology in St. Paul’s letters. Within the gospels, which are stories, we find the parables he told- they are stories!

I think all of us are meant to minister for God, and not for what we can get from God. I don’t believe I am owed eternal life in union with God.  To think otherwise is to suppose that I can work  my way to heaven. And I can’t. Salvation is God’s free gift! God gives it generously to anyone who will receive it, but it’s still God’s free gift. There is no greater reward than this, and I believe JOY is the right response to the gift.

This week all Catholics around the world celebrate the memorial of St. Vincent De Paul who founded the Congregation of the Mission to supervise the formation of priests and to give support to the poor. With the help of St. Louise de Marillac, he also founded the Congregation of the Daughters of Charity. On September 29th, we remember the feast day of the Archangels- Michael, Gabriel and Raphael.

Finally, these full days of school are all about LEARNING! And we have so much to be grateful for because the Missionary Sisters of the Sacro Costato who just celebrated their feast day has welcomed a new Sister to their community!!!!  Let us all welcome SISTER MARY JANE!!!

Have a wonderful week ahead!!
