Principal's Message: Week of January 20, 2019
2nd Sunday of Ordinary Time

[Hidden image]

Dear St. Luke Families,

This past weekend we honored Martin Luther King, Jr. Catholic bishops say it is a time for Christians to ask God what they need to do to counter racism. “The moment is also an opportunity for us to pause and reflect individually on what we are doing to build the culture of love, respect and peace to which the Gospel calls us and to also ask ourselves how we seek to help our brothers and sisters still suffering under the weight of racism,” the bishops said.

And, believe it or not this coming Thursday is our 100th day of school as we come upon Catholic Schools Week! Come and join us on Sunday, February 27th, for Open House, Mass, and lots of hospitality!!

In this coming Sunday’s gospel reading, we see Jesus standing up in his home town & announce his program: to bring glad tidings to the poor, to proclaim liberty to captives, recovery of sight to the blind and release to prisoners. This program was established by one who had returned to Galilee “in the power of the Spirit.” For us as Catholic Christians, these are not some optional activities that one can engage in only if one is inclined. It is the program for which each of us have been anointed!

Reading I: Nehemiah 8:2-4a, 5-6, 8-10
Responsorial Psalm 19:8, 9, 10, 15
Reading II: 1 Corinthians 12:12-30 or 12:12-14, 27
Gospel: Luke 1:1-4; 4:14-21

A Message from Bishop Cotta

Dear Children and Youth,

Now, as you continue your academic school year after the Holidays, and as we begin a New Year, I pray all is well with you.

For those of you who, last year, celebrated your First Holy Communion, I pray that you have stayed close to Jesus. I hope you, and your family, are continuing to go to church on Sunday so that you can listen to the Gospel of Jesus and to receive Him in Holy Communion - the Bread of Life, the Eucharist! Let us not deprive ourselves of so great a Gift! A Blessed and Happy New Year to you and your family.

For you, our young people, who received the Sacrament of Confirmation in 2018, I pray all is well with you as we begin the New Year, 2019.

From your day of Confirmation to the present, how has the Holy Spirit made a difference in your life? Have you fostered a relationship with Him? Are you calling upon Him to help you? Don’t forget, the Holy Spirit is your “Helper.” Have you asked Him for the “Fruits” and “Gifts” that are available to you? Remember, all you have to do is ask for them. The Holy Spirit is there to help you! He loves you and He will lead you to a greater relationship with Jesus. Never forget that!

Let me know how it is going by leaving a message or comment on the Diocese of Stockton’s Facebook or Twitter page.

You remain in my prayers.

God bless you!

Bishop Cotta
